Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir chairs valedictory function of Disaster preparedness programme, under URRP.

Divisional
Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon said that a
prepared community can face disasters as first responders. He
said this while chairing the Valedictory function of the two
days disaster preparedness training programme, organised by
Divisional Disaster Management Kashmir, in association with
Civil Defence at Government Degree College (GDC), Bemina,
Srinagar. The programme was held under the Urban Risk
Reduction Project (URRP).
The valedictory function was also attended by Director. Information Department Kashmir, Khwaja Farooq Renzushah, Deputy Iinspector General of Police, Traffic Kashmir, Shri Vijay Kumar, Secretary, Regional Red Cross, Ab. Jabbar Chakat, HoD Disaster Management Centre IMPA, Dr. GM Dar, Principal GDC, Professor G.M. Tibet Baqal, Dy. Controller Civil Defence, Rafiq Ahmed, Dy. Director Fire Services, Khurshid Ahmed Bazaz, First Aid Trainer, Dr IPS Bali, OSD with Div Com Kashmir & Dy. Chief Warden Civil Defence, Aamir Ali, besides Divisional Wardens of Civil Defence, including Rahi Riyaz.
The function, which went on till late evening, witnessed unprecedented rush of the entire staff of the College and hundreds of students of the college, hailing from various areas of the Valley, including from Gurez, Tangdhar, Lolab, Beerwah, Pulwama, Kupwara, Bandipora, Srinagar etc.
Professor Ishtiaq Ahmed Qureshi coordinated the programme and Professor Masrat Jabeen presented vote of thanks.
Reacting to media reports of US based Professor, Roger Bilham, about possibility of earthquake, Renzushah urged the community not to unnecessarily panic. He said that training is very important as it creates awareness as well as builds up the capacities of the trained personnel to cope up with any disaster situation.

Com said that Govt has decided to operationalise Emergency
Operation Centres (EOCs) in all districts. He also highlighted
the various programmes that are being conducted by the
Disaster
Management Cell for the benefit of the community. He informed
that Srinagar Municipal Corporation has already amended the
Building Bye-laws to the extent of making it mandatory for all
new structures to be earthquake resistant. He mentioned about
the traditional structures like Dajji Dewari and Taaj
which were disaster resistant structures and hoped that we
don’t lose the traditional knowledge of safe constructions.
The participants were taught Search & Rescue and Fire Fighting by CD trainer Abdul Gaffar, Shakeel Ahmed and Mohammed Hussain during the two days training. The participants were also taught safe use of LPG by Haroon Hamid, Sr. Sales Manager HPCL. The participants were taught First Aid by Dr IPS Bali. Certificates of participation were distributed amongst the participants by Div Com Kashmir, which was followed by a mock drill in which Dr Samoon also participated.
The disaster awareness activities have been undertaken under the Urban Risk Reduction Project, which is a Government of India sponsored programme covering twin cities of Srinagar and Jammu.
Mir opens Humray-Naid Khai road for public movement
SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 30: The Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Ghulam Hassan Mir declared Humray Naid Khai road open for public movement today. The road was in the possession of army for last many years.
Present on the occasion was Core Commander, General Hasnain, Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Civil and army officers and large number of locals.
Later, addressing a public Darbar, the Minister assured people that their genuine problems would be looked into and solved on priority basis. He said that peace is imperative for development and appealed people to help in creating peaceful atmosphere in the State.
On this occasion, General Hasnain assured the Minister that the army will soon vacate Wanigam-Tilgam road for public movement.
The Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla said on the occasion that Government has spent Rs. 1.50 crore on the developmental works in Palhalan while Rs. 1.50 crore more are being expended on developmental works, on which work is in full swing.
Div Com chairs land acquisition meet
SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 30: Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr. Asghar Samoon presided over a meeting to deliberate on various matters concerning land acquisition for road widening project.
The meeting discussed 15 cases regarding land acquisition, out of which 7 cases were amicably settled and compensation ordered to be released in favour of land holders. These cases related to Zaina Kadal, Habba Kadal, Gadood Bagh, Community Hall Miskeen Bagh, Kani Kadal, Sazgari Mohalla and Khanyar areas of the Srinagar city.
Present in the meeting were District Development Commissioner, Srinagar, Mr. Baseer Ahmad Khan, Chief Engineer, R&B, officers of Srinagar Development Authority, Town Planner Srinagar, Superintending Engineer, Circular Road, Land Acquisition Collector and Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
Div Com inaugurates blood donation camp organised by Red Cross Society
SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 30: The Indian Red Cross Society today organized a Voluntary Blood Donation Camp in which 100 volunteers donated blood.
The
camp was inaugurated by Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr.
Asghar Samoon .Director Information Khawaja Farooq Renzushah and
Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Mr. A.J. Chaket were also
present on the occasion. The Divisional Commissioner congratulated
the Red Cross Society for such initiatives and stressed on the
importance of such blood donation camps.
The Secretary Red Cross, Mr. A.J. Chaket briefed the Divisional Commissioner about the activities being performed by the society .The blood donation camp was organized in collaboration with the technical staff of Medical College, Srinagar headed by Dr. Mohammad Suhail Consultant and volunteers of Degree College, Bemina. Hussainee Khidmatgar Committee and J&K Human Development Society/Ahsan Mankind Balhama.
On the occasion, the volunteers from Government Degree College, Bemina, Srinagar were also felicitated for their notable performances at the Inter State National Level Youth Red Cross Training camp held at Haryana.
The Divisional Commissioner lauded the students for their achievements and exhorted them to strengthen the society in the state .During the occasion it was informed that the work on the three blocks at Red Cross road campus will soon commence at an estimated cost of 13.35 lakhs.
The team comprise of Tanveer Ahmad Malik won the first prize in the competition of extempore speech (National level) and third prize in certificate (Write ups and Plans on find the volunteer inside you International level), Abdul Majid Malik, Zahid Iqbal Lone won second prize in the group singing.
Muneer Ahmad Tantray and Irshad Ahmad won third prize in solo song and painting respectively.

Budgam to be a smoke free zone soon
BUDGAM, DECEMBER 30: With one month remaining to declare Budgam smoke free zone (26th January), Anti-Tobacco campaign is on its toes as Anti-smoking drive was launched in various blocks of Budgam today.
The drive was launched by District Administration Budgam under supervision of CMO Budgam, Designated Officer Food Safety & Standards, Food Safety Officers of the block Budgam, Chadoora, Magam, Beerwah, Khansahib and Chrar-i-Sharief, SHO's of concerned blocks, Naib Tehsildars and District Coordinator J&K Voluntray Health Association represented the squad.
Guided by Deputy Commissioner, Budgam, the Squad visited public offices, hotels and restaurants, bus stands, hospitals, schools and total of 66 persons were found violating the law including Section-4 (ban on smoking in public places) and Section-6 (sale of tobacco products within 100 yards) Rs. 5910 were collected as challan from offenders.
DLSC sanctions Rs. 20.155 lakhs as ex-gratia relief
SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 30: The District Level Screening Cum Coordination Committee (DLSC) meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Mr. Baseer Ahmad Khan here today.
The meeting cleared 12 cases of death and injury for which ex-gratia relief to the tune of Rs. 20.155 lakhs were sanctioned.
The meeting was attended by the representatives of Police, CRPF, Army and BSF.
