Omar for focused attention on unemployment crisis
Rangarajan Committee calls on CM
Srinagar,
November 24 – The expert group of Rangarajan Committee
led by its Chairman, Dr. C. Rangarajan called on Chief
Minister, Omar Abdullah here this evening and discussed
matters relating to the formulation of a comprehensive
employment plan for youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Chief Minister while identifying the areas with higher employment potential flagged the unemployment problem as one of the most important issues requiring focused attention.
Omar Abdullah said that the State Government has launched a multi-pronged policy to address unemployment crisis underlining the urgent need for initiatives by the Central Government in this regard to help expand the job orbit for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Chief Minister also underscored the importance of giving necessary boost to development sectors capable of providing jobs and generating wide ranging economic activities.
Omar Abdullah said special package for development of small and medium entrepreneurship sector is imperative to give new dimension to employment policy in the State to address the problem effectively.
“While we are thankful to Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and the UPA Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi for the liberal financial support to the State and their keen interest in the speedy progress on all fronts, there is urgent need for enhanced central support to address the unemployment crises.”, he added.
The Chief Minister expressed the hope that the Rangarajan Committee’s recommendation would yield positive results for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He also hoped path breaking recommendations by the Committee for addressing unemployment crises in the State.
Expert Group headed by Dr. C. Rangarajan on a two day visit to J&K
Srinagar, November 24: The
Expert Group for formulating a
comprehensive job plan
for Jammu and Kashmir, set up by the Prime Minister of
India, arrived here today on a two day visit to the
State. The Expert Group is headed by Dr. C.
Rangarajan, former Governor of Andhra Pradesh and
Reserve Bank of India and at present Chairman of the
Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council (EAC).
The group had wide ranging discussions for over three hours in two sessions, the first session involving conversations with Fruit and Flower Growers Association, representatives from Dairy, Poultry and Sheep sector and Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Artisan Association. In the second session, the group had extensive interaction with representatives from various IT companies, House Boat Owners Association, Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Owners Federation, Travel Agent Society of Kashmir, Travel Agents Association Kashmir and Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Association.
The Expert Group called on the Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah, late evening today. The Expert Group will have discussions with the Industry at Jammu.
Mr. Nand Kumar (Member), Mr. Y.V. Sharma (Member), Mr. K. Skandan (Joint Secy. MHA), Mr. K.P. Krishna, and Ms. Padma Iyer Kaul, Director EAC were also present in the meeting.
Mr. Iqbal Khanday, Principal Secretary, Agriculture, Mr. B.B. Vyas Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Mr. Umang Narula, Commissioner/Secretary I&C, Mr. Atal Duloo, Commissioner/Secretary Tourism, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, Mr. B.D. Sharma, Secretary Animal Husbandry, Mr. Farooq Ahmad Peer, Secretary Labour and Employment and senior officers from Tourism, Horticulture, Agriculture and Employment also attended the meeting.
Div Com, IGP interact with DCs, SSPs of Valley
Srinagar, November 24- A meeting
of Deputy Commissioners and SSPs of various districts
of the Kashmir Division was held here today under the
chairmanship of Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr.
Asgar Hassan Samoon. IGP Kashmir, Mr. S.M. Sahai and
DIG South Kashmir Range Mr Shafqat Watali, were also
present in the meeting. Deputy Commissioners of
Srinagar, Anantnag, Budgam, Ganderbal, Pulwama,
Shopian and Kulgam were present besides SSP Srinagar,
Budgam, Ganderbal, Anantnag, Awantipore, Pulwama,
Kulgam and Shopian.
The meeting discussed various matters related to general public and civil and police administration in detail. The Divisional Commissioner emphasised the need for promoting police, civil administration and people relations. He said the civil administration and police should collectively work for development and welfare of the people.
