Sarpanchs call on Div Com
Sarpanchs to assist in removal of encroachments. Numberdars and Chowkidars to report to Sarpanch.
Srinagar, 14.12.2011:
A delegation of around 30 Sarpanchs led by Ghulam Nabi Mir called on Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon. During the meeting the Sarpanchs demanded that Government should allocate revolving funds to the Panchayats so that they can run their day to day affairs. They also demanded that elections to the Block Development Council should be held early and also urged that orientation trainings be organised for the Panchs and Sarpanchs.
Divisional Commissioner directed that all Deputy Commissioners shall organise at least one monthly meeting with the Sarpanchs and the concerned District Officers at the Dist HQ. He He gave directions to Director Rural Development Deptt Kashmir to nominate District Panchayat Officer as the District Coordinating Officer to oversee the affairs of the Panchayats at the District level. It was informed that a batch of 30 Sarpanchs have been selected for training and tour programme at Pune and the batch will leave on 26th January. He gave instructions to Rural Dev Deptt to immediately provide copies of Panchayat Raj Act and Rules in Urdu and English to the Sarpanchs, so that they are aware of their powers. Div Com also directed that all Numberdars and Chowkidars to report to the Sarpanchs. Dr. Samoon directed that Sarpanchs would assist the administration in removal of encroachments from Kahcharai land. He also redressed various grievances brought to his notice, by the delegation.
137 stranded passengers of Kargil, airlifted by IAF
Srinagar, 14.12.2011:
137 passengers were airlifted in Kargil Courier, AN-32 planes of Indian Air Force, today between Kargil and Srinagar. 64 passengers were airlifted from Kargil to Srinagar and 73 passengers from Srinagar to Kargil. In total 332 passengers have been airlifted between Kargil, Jammu and Srinagar, so far.
439 passengers airlifted, till date.
Srinagar, 16.12.2011:
Two sorties of Kargil Courier airlifted 107 passengers, today between Kargil and Srinagar in AN-32 aircraft of Indian Air Force. As per the Memorandum of Association signed between Govt of India and State Government, only four sorties of Kargil Courier are authorised per week on every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday between Kargil and Srinagar and on every Tuesday between Kargil and Jammu. However, keeping in view the heavy rush of passengers at Kargil the State Government had made a request to Ministry of Defence, Govt of India to operate additional flights to clear the stranded passengers.
Till date 439 passengers have been airlifted by IAF in the Kargil Courier. The additional sorties were arranged due to personal intervention of Minister for CAPD & Transport, Qamar Ali Akhoon, Chief Executive Counsellor LAHDC Kargil, Kachu Ahmed Ali Khan, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, Commissioner, Civil Aviation S. Katoch and especially Director (Air-1), Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India, Ms Anjali Singh, AOC J&K, Air Vice Marshall, Jasbir Walia, Air Commodore, D.S. Ahluwalia, SASO and Air-2, Group Captain, P.K. Sharma and Western Air Command.
Government of India has approved expansion of the runway at Kargil airfield by additional 1550 feet and work for land acquistion has been initiated. This was one of the demands projected to the Ladakh Special Task Force headed by Prof Jadav, where Dr. Samoon was also a member. With the expansion of the runway, it will be possible for commercial aircrafts called ATR to land at Kargil, which would go a long way in rederessal of the grievances of the locals, as they remain cut off for almost six months. During the road closure period, IAF facilitates airlift of the stranded passengers, as well as the serious patients from Kargil, Zanskar and Nobra. IAF also airlifts serious patients from Gurez, Tuleil, Tangdhar and Machil during road closure, due to snowfall.
