Governor visits Chandanwari, Pahalgam; reviews ongoing works, lays stress on effective sanitation measures

SRINAGAR, MAY 13 - The Governor, Mr. N. N. Vohra, who is also the Chairman of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, today visited Chandanwari and Pahalgam and reviewed the progress of various ongoing works in the context of  the ensuing Shri Amarnathji Yatra which will commence on 29thJune 2011.

The Governor travelled by road particularly with a view to inspecting the status of the Pahalgam-Chandanwari Road . At Chandanwari, he discussed the arrangements being made for the Yatris with all the concerned officers who had assembled there. He was informed by Mr. Mushtaq Ahmed Lone, Chief Engineer, PMGSY, that the Pahalgam-Chandanwari Road is being upgraded under PMGSY Scheme and a substantial portion of this stretch of road shall be improved well ahead of the commencement of the Yatra. The Governor emphasized the need for expediting the work to make the road suitable particularly for Yatra related vehicular traffic. Mr. R. K. Goyal, Principal Secretary to the Governor and Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board, was present on the occasion. 

On return from Chandanwari to Pahalgam, the Governor had an extensive round of the Nunwan Base Camp and inspected the various ongoing works, including those relating to water and power supplies, sanitation measures, repair of lanes/drains and creation of other requisite facilities for the Yatris. He directed the concerned Agencies to ensure the commissioning of all the required facilities, in a time-bound manner.

The Governor further directed the Chief Executive Officer to ensure that all the required sanitation related measures, including the operationalization of Sewage Treatment Plant at Nunwan Camp, were taken well in time and particular attention given to ensure that all solid and liquid wastes are effectively treated before disposal. He directed that a proper Protocol for monitoring the liquid discharges should be worked out before the commencement of the Yatra.

Later, at a high level meeting at the Nunwan Base Camp, the Governor and the Minister of State for Tourism and Home, Mr. Nasir Aslam Wani, held discussions with the Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag, Mr. Kifayat Ahmad Rizvi, and all the District level officers of the Power, Public Health, Roads and Buildings, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution and the other concerned officers. During this meeting, all the Yatra related arrangements, proposed to be made on the traditional Chandanwari route, by various Departments including the PHE, PDD, CAPD, Health, Labour and Animal Husbandry were discussed in adequate detail and the required decisions were taken.

 The SSP Anantnag, Mr. Ramesh Kumar Jalla, Additional CEO of the Shrine Board, Mr. Preet Pal Singh, CEO, Pahalgam Development Authority, Mir Altaf Ahmad, General Manager (Operation) Mr. Niaz and GM (W) Mr. K.G. Bamba and other district officers were present on the occasion.
