Prevention of smoking at publicplaces
Drug, Food controldepartment realizes Rs 21995 fine
MAY 12 –The teams of Drug and Food Control Organization
challaned 110 persons duringlast month for smoking in public
places across the state, while fourestablishments were
penalized for selling cigarettes and other Tobacco productsto
the minors.
Theteams also challaned 73 establishments found selling
cigarettes and otherTobacco products within a radius of 100
yards of educational institutions.
Atotal of Rs.21995 was realized as fine during the
period from the persons/vendors for violation of
variousprovision of the Section 4 (prohibition of smoking in
public places) ofCigarettes and other Tobacco products
(Prohibition of Advertisement andRegulation of Trade and
Commerce, Production, supply and distribution) Act2003.
Alsothe advertisement materials found displayed at the
different establishmentsthat was in contravention of the
Section 5 (Prohibition of Advertisement ofCigarette or other
tobacco products was removed.
Allthe stockiest/wholesalers/retailers dealing with
cigarettes and other Tobaccoproducts are impressed upon not to
sell the cigarette or other tobacco productsin area within a
radius of one hundred yards from the educational institutions.
Alsoit is appealed to the public not to smoke especially in
public places as thepassive smoking is equally harmful as
active smoking. Moreover, the entireowner or manager or any
person incharge of the education institutions arerequested to
display a board at a conspicuous place (s) outside the
premises ofthe following manner:
“Saleof cigarette and other tobacco products in a area
within a radius of the 100yards of the educational institution
is strictly prohibited and that is anoffence punishable with
the fine which may be extend to two hundredrupees
