Monitor personally dev projects, basic facilities for people: Mir to DC’s
Asks PDD adhere strictly to power distribution schedule

January 10: Minister
for Agriculture, Mr. Ghulam Hassan Mir today directed Chief
Engineer Power Development Department to adhere strictly to
the curtailment schedule already published in the valley so
that people get power supply during this cold wave which has
engulfed the valley. He also directed that wherever the
electric transformers are damaged be repaired changed within
seven days as per the instructions already issued by the Chief
Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah.
This direction was passed in a high level divisional officers meeting chaired by the Minister to take stock of the supply position in valley and progress of ongoing developmental works in the valley in winter secretariat here today.
The meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Samoon, all Deputy Commissioners of valley, Chief Engineers of Power, PHE and R&B and Joint Director of Information, Deputy Director, Central, CA&PD and representatives of other concerned departments.
The Minister was informed that PDD department is providing 840 MWs electricity to the people at peak hours and added that there was one evening cut in metered areas and three evening cut in non metered areas. He further informed that department is trying very hard to meet out the demand of the people particularly in peak hours.
Giving the direction to divisional commissioner to personally to remain in touch with PDD department Mr. Mir said that “Government is bound and is its duty to provide essential service to people at any cost”. He said that the government has already imported the power from northern grid as per their transmission capacity to provide adequate power supply to the people. He said that to coup up the demand, the gas turbine was also commissioned to ease out the people’s problem.
He was informed that due to incompletion of two main grid stations at Mir Bazar in South Kashmir and Delina in North Kashmir in view of unrest in the valley during last months, the department is not in a position to import more power from the northern Grid. The Minister appealed the people to cooperate with PDD and make judicious use of power. He directed the Chief Engineer PDD to aware people about the difficulties regarding transmission of more power in electronic media and asked him to gear up the lower staff across the valley to come up to the expectations of people. He directed to immediately repair the damaged transformers within seven days, as “We have committed in front of people for the same and said whosoever be involved in delaying tactics would not be spared.”
Regarding the stock and supply position of essential commodities in valley, the Minister was informed that adequate stock of rice, atta, sugar, K. Oil and LPG is available in every district and the stock for inaccessible and cut of areas has already been dumped before winter, which is sufficient till June.
The Minister requested Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir to ensure that lifting of ration for the respective sales depot of valley should be completed by 5th on every month and its distribution be also done up to 20th of every month as per the circular issued by CA&PD. He also directed the deputy commissioners to monitor the supply position on daily basis so that people do not face any inconvenience. He further directed to CA&PD to ensure that the allocated sugar reach to the people and any indulgence in this regard be deled severely. He directed the Dc’s to rationalize the CA&PD staff wherever necessary to streamline the distribution system in respective districts.
Regarding water supply position in valley, the minister was informed that department is taking all efforts to provide uninterrupted potable water supply to people across the valley. He was informed that city Srinagar is receiving almost 70 million gallons of drinking water per day to meet the demand besides 99 tankers have been pressed into service and keeping 15 tankers standby, which take care of water supply to areas presently facing shortage or where piped water supply has not be extended.
Regarding the contingency plan for snow clearance across the valley, the Minister was informed that 77 snow clearing machines are ready in all districts of the valley and it was told that first time one snow cutter machine was sent to Gurez to clear the interior roads well in time.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister asked all the Deputy Commissioners to monitor the construction work of all ongoing projects and also monitor MGNREGA as it is the only avenue for rural people during winter season. He asked them for preparing futuristic plan of developmental works of respective districts and complete all paper work before march to achieve maximum working season for these works.
Div Com constitutes committee for promotion of Urdu language
Srinagar, January 10: To promote Urdu language and redress various issues of Urdu Academy, the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Samoon has constituted a committee of officers under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Meraj Ahmad Kakroo.
The other members of the committee are Vice Chairman, SDA, Joint Director Education Department, Kashmir, Joint Director Information Department, Kashmir, Additional Secretary, Cultural Academy Kashmir, President Urdu Academy, Secretary Urdu Academy and Vice President Urdu Academy, Srinagar.
The Divisional Commissioner asked the committee to submit an interim report within a month for further appropriate action in the matter.
